QSAN, Datainer, and Toshiba Present Storage Solution at IBC in Amsterdam

March  25 , 2020

Taipei City, Taiwan – March 25, 2020 – QSAN Technology, Inc. (QSAN), a leading storage technology designer and manufacturer, continues its technology partnership with Western Digital to improve high-density storage for the XCubeNAS series with reliable, flexible, and cost-effective capacity expansion options for a true enterprise-grade solution.

Western Digital’s Ultrastar® Data60 and Data102 hybrid storage platforms are high-density 4U JBOD disk enclosures that can be populated with up to 60 and 102 SAS/SATA drives respectively and come with redundant PSU, IOM, and fans. The compact and efficient form factors also provide the flexibility to specify HDD and SSD combinations for balancing capacity, performance, and cost. With the Ultrastar platforms, XCubeNAS can seamlessly scale to address the demanding storage needs of large enterprises, OEMs and cloud service providers. By connecting four expansion units of Ultrastar Data102, customers can leverage up to 432 Ultrastar DC HC600 series HDDs, expanding capacity up to 6.5PB of raw storage. Western Digital’s JBOD solutions also incorporate key design innovations such as IsoVibe™, which reduces vibration-induced performance degradation, and ArcticFlow™, which improves cooling, reduces power consumption, and enhances long-term reliability. Together these technologies have been demonstrated to reduce disk drive field returns by over 60 percent¹.

QSAN Storage Manager QSM is a NAS operation system specially designed for QSAN XCubeNAS series. The core of QSM is Linux kernel and in-house fine-tuning 128-bit ZFS. The ZFS has high scalability and can be managed easily, also with the ability to maintain the data integrity. QSM not only inherits the amazing native features of ZFS, its powerful storage features ensure persistent, reliable storage management, protection against data corruption, seamless capacity expansion, several data integrity mechanisms, pool and disk encryption protection, unlimited snapshots, and unlimited clones.

“The addition of high-density Ultrastar JBOD expansion options for the XCubeNAS series dramatically increases its scale-up capability to offer greater customer value and choice,” said Dexter Yao, product manager, QSAN. “XCubeNAS is ideal for virtual machine backup, disaster recovery backup target, and IP smart storage. What’s more, the WORM (Write-Once, Read-Many) compliance storage solution offers the most cost-effective approach to extreme data protection and long-term data retention in the market.”

QSAN’s XCubeNAS series, combined with Western Digital’s Ultrastar Data60 and Data 102 JBOD storage enclosures, will continue to serve customer needs by enabling them to more efficiently manage and protect data assets while scaling out their architecture as their businesses grow.
